    Received the error:

Add-ADSyncRule : A deadlock occurred in SQL Server while trying to acquire an
    application lock.
    At C:\Files\New.ps1:674 char:1
    + Add-ADSyncRule `
    + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo : WriteError: (Microsoft.Ident...DSyncRuleCmdlet:AddADSy
    ncRuleCmdlet) [Add-ADSyncRule], SynchronizationConfigurationValidationException
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : A deadlock occurred in SQL Server while trying to acqu
    ire an application lock.,Microsoft.IdentityManagement.PowerShell.Cmdlet.AddADSyn
    cRuleCmdlet

Also cannot use the BitTitan article 115008109087-How-can-I-set-msExchMailboxGUID-attribute-to-null because you cannot type or select NULL as an option in AADConnect 1.1.649.0

    Hi Dyan Brockbank,

I've consulted with our technical SMEs about this article and we've termined that the steps are outdated because of recent updates to Azure AD. I'm going to archive this article in a few days.

Microsoft has recently published an excellent article about Azure AD filtering, and we recommend that you follow the instructions in that article instead. Go to the URL listed below to read that article.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/connect/active-directory-aadconnectsync-configure-filtering

Thank you for your feedback. Let me know if you have further questions.
