This module covers the steps to prepare a mailbox migration project in MigrationWiz. We show you how to create the mailbox migration project, create the Customer for the migration, create the Source and Destination Endpoints, add the User mailboxes that will be migrated, configure Advanced Options for the project, and purchase licenses and apply them to the Users for the project. In this lab exercise, you will create and prepare a mailbox migration project in MigrationWiz.
Prerequisites
- Completion of the module
- Registration for MigrationWiz
- User Migration Bundle licenses
Note: Licenses are only required to run the migration. You can create and prepare the mailbox migration project without licenses.
Lab Exercise
Complete these steps to create the mailbox migration project, create the customer, and create the Source and Destination Endpoints in MigrationWiz:
- Sign in to MigrationWiz at this web address: https://migrationwiz.bittitan.com.
- Click the Workgroup in which you want to create the mailbox migration project.
- Click Create Project to start a new migration project.
- Click Create a Mailbox Migration Project, and then click Next Step.
- Enter a name for the project.
- Click New to create a new Customer.
- In the Add Customer form, enter the customer’s primary email domain and the name of the company.
- Click Save.
- Click Next Step.
- In the Endpoint field, click New to create a new Source Endpoint.
- Enter a name for the Endpoint.
- Select the Source Endpoint type, which, in our case, is Exchange Server 2003+.
- Enter the Outlook Web Access URL for the Exchange Server.
- Select Provide credentials, and then enter the username and password for the administrator account that was created in the Exchange Server.
- Click Add.
- Click Next Step.
- Click Next Step, and skip over the Migration Archive Stubs, if shown. This is an email archive migration service that is no longer available.
- In the Endpoint field, click New to create a new Destination Endpoint.
- Enter a name for the Endpoint.
- Select the Destination Endpoint type, which, in our case, is Office 365.
- Select Provide credentials, and then enter the username and password for the administrator account that was created in the Office 365 tenant.
- Click Add.
- Click Save And Go To Summary.
- Click Save Project.
Complete these steps to add users via the Autodiscovery method:
- Click Add users via Autodiscovery.
- If no Autodiscovery has been previously started, click Start Autodiscovery.
- It will take a few minutes for Autodiscovery to complete.
- To close the Autodiscovery panel, click Close.
- Once Autodiscovery completes, click Add from MSPComplete to see the Users and mailboxes that were discovered.
- Select the User mailboxes that you want to add to the project, and then click Save Users and Close.
Complete these steps to view the Advanced Options for your mailbox migration project:
- Click the Edit Project drop-down menu, and then click Advanced Options.
In the Advanced Options, you can configure the migration status notifications, define the migration filtering options, configure the Source and Destination settings, enable the audit logging option, define project maintenance parameters, define licenses to consume per item, configure local datacenter options to improve migration performance, and define advanced support options.
Complete these steps to change the Source or Destination domains for the User mailboxes that you added to the migration project:
- Add a checkmark next to the migration items that you want to modify.
- Click Change Domains.
- Enter the new Source or Destination domain. In most cases, you will want to modify the Destination domain to match the ".onmicrosoft.com" domain automatically issued by Office 365.
- Click Save and Close.
