What’s New in MigrationWiz?
Google Sites to SharePoint Sites Release
Google Sites is a tool that allows its users to create websites and to be compatible with other Google apps such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Slides. Google has announced that their ‘classic’ Google Sites will no longer be viewable by anyone due to an automatic transition to the ‘new’ Google Sites experience. Accordingly, MigrationWiz users are now able to easily migrate their ‘new’ Google Sites pages into SharePoint Sites, with their content, layout, and embedded files all with the same workflow and a single shared document license.
Product Enhancement Highlights
Document Project Setup
MigrationWiz users can now migrate their 'New' Google Sites to a SharePoint Site, transferring essential components such as page layouts, content, site page hierarchy, and embedded files. Additionally, users have the flexibility to easily specify their migration preferences and parameters, requiring fewer steps to initiate and manage a migration project, allowing the migration of various components with minimal complexity.
Source Google Sites API Enablement
MigrationWiz users should enable read-only access to the Google Drive API and Google Calendar API endpoints in the Google Cloud Platform Console before initiating their MigrationWiz document migration project.
Destination SharePoint Site Requirements
To set up the destination environment, MigrationWiz users should choose a Communication Site or Team Site in the following scenarios:
- New Communication Site - The site is created automatically during migration.
- Existing Communication Site - The site can be created manually before migration, or it can be an existing communication site at the destination.
- Existing Team Site - The site can be created manually before migration using a template. Otherwise, it can be an existing team site at the destination.
Please Note
Automatic SharePoint Site creation is not supported for Team Sites.Authentication Requirements for SharePoint Import
To continue the configuring of the destination environment, MigrationWiz users should select one of these application permissions options and follow the steps to enable permission levels at the destination as described in the Google Sites to SharePoint Sites Guide:
- Delegated Authentication - The easiest approach is to use the global administrator account set up at the time of tenant creation. However, if users do not wish to use this global admin account during migration, then a new user account can be created instead. This user account needs to have a license assigned that includes SharePoint and be granted Site Collection Administrator privileges to the user Sharepoint being migrated in the project.
- App-Based Authentication - In case a MigrationWiz user does not have delegated permissions, they should use Full Control Permissions. BitTitan uses app-based authentication for SharePoint, providing greater security and reducing the potential of Microsoft throttling. It replaces the previous Microsoft 365 authentication, which has been subject to increased throttling by Microsoft. This app-based authentication method is specific for Microsoft 365 tenants.
For the full steps and configuration review the Application Permissions for SharePoint section in the Google Sites to SharePoint Sites guide.
Expanded Migration Scope and Mapping
The ‘Document Project’ type has a broader migration scope to include an extensive range of content types and file formats to be migrated, ensuring better coverage for various scenarios. With optimized migration mapping capabilities, MigrationWiz users can now expect a more accurate and efficient content transfer from Google Sites to Microsoft 365 SharePoint Sites.
Improved Error Handling
The Google Sites to SharePoint Sites feature incorporates an improved error-handling mechanism for easier issue resolution across all stages of the migration process.
